Maps

Maps is a two-movement graphic score for solo instrumentalists. Both movements are pencil sketches of aerial natural scenes drawn by the composer.

Movement I: Bathe is a walk through a lightly wooded area. Your journey begins along the path directly beneath the tempo marking. Where it ends depends on where the music and your imagination take you. Imagine yourself on this path—what do you see, hear, smell, taste, and feel? Use these sensations as your guide to a performance that transports your audience into the forest with you. This journey is a slow one, so take your time. Bathe in the forest.

Movement II: Float follows a similar structure as the first movement, but instead of being on land, you are now in a flowing body of water. Your journey begins at the start of the stream in the bottom left corner. Where your journey ends is up to you!
